Missing
In Action |
There
are several major terrains I'd constructed which
disappeared, probably given to friends, but which
I'd never photographed. So, for my own benefit,
I'll enumerate them and throw in some sketches of
what they looked like...eventually. |
Arena |
The
Arena was constructed to resemble a Roman coliseum.
It was
designed specifically for arena-type battles as
it was only twelve hexes across. Battles here were
usually short and vicious.
The most fun I had with this terrain was one game
in which the idea was to see who could die the
most
times AND have destroyed the highest total tonnage
of enemy 'mechs. We only allowed one of each type
of mech so the
choices got limited real fast. It was
a HOOT! |
Blind Man's Bluff |
The
ideas of Blind Man's Bluff was to build two
identical maps with very intricate tunnel systems,
and have each
team
walled off from the other so they couldn't see
the enemy 'mechs until they rounded a corner,
but only the ref would know when two mechs
saw each
other. This was a very suspenseful game but slow
as fuck as everyone was playing very cautiously,
so we never played it again. |
The Valley |
The
Valley was,well, a valley,
about four feet square, with hills rising gently
to either side.
My favorite game ever played on this terrain was
called Bee Hive. It pitted ten Stingers and Wasps
against two King Crabs. Two hundred tons per side.
It sounded fun but the light 'mechs quickly discovered
they could punch and kick the assault 'mechs into
submission.
Stupid punch rules. |
